The humanitarian cause in Africa that we were first called to was vision care (still such a need there, as Kenya has only one ophthalmologist for every one million people). Many vision “clinics” still take place there as part of our network, and today the Kenya Ministry of Health considers our network to be one of their key partners in eliminating preventable blindness. Some Vision for Africa congregations have begun to broaden their outreaches to include medical clinics, malaria prevention, and a rescue center for girls fleeing forced female genital mutilation and early marriage. Since 2007, Vision for Africa has been responsible for over 80 missions to Kenya, each one treating thousands of people.
